"Current state of Azerbaijan’s economy and crisis challenges" session

On February 11th AAA will host a session named "Current state of Azerbaijan’s economy and crisis challenges"

This presentation will explore the impact of the global financial crisis on state policies, household incomes, the business environment and condition of Azerbaijan. Providing the overall assessment of Azerbaijan’s economic basics as a background, the presentation compares current microeconomic indicators with the projections made before and during crisis on the results of competition survey held among Azerbaijan companies. At the same time, based on the survey impact of global financial crisis on financial condition of local companies and export capacity are researched and changes occurred in macroeconomic indicators within crisis period are presented. Position to sanative promotion programs in post-oil economy within the context of crisis impact and Dutch disease are made and based on this the role of sovereign wealth funds in economy are being taken care of. In case of exhaustion of oil incomes during post-oil period, serious calls on macroeconomic stability, exchange rate policy, inflation, deficit of payment balance and foreign debt are being researched.

The event language will be Azerbaijani.

Bio for Gubad Ibadoglu

 

Gubad Ibadoglu is an economist from Azerbaijan. He received scientific degree (Ph.D. in Economics, 1999) from Azerbaijan State Economic University (ASEU). The central theme in his PhD research is corporate governance in the transition economies. Conducted research at the Higher Economic School, Warsaw in 1999/2000 and at Central European University, Budapest in 2004/2005, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2008/2009. He is an associate professor at the “Economic Analysis” Department of ASEU.

Positions held outside academic environment Chairman of Economic Research Center (www.erc-az.org) and editor-in-chief "Expert" magazine (www.ekspert.az).

Author of over 45 scholarly publications, including five books, major papers and one monograph named "Theoretical and methodological problems and retrospective economic analysis of privatization". He is co-author of “Basics of Economics”, “Budget Guide”, “Explanatory dictionary of Budgeting Terms”, “How to analyze Municipal Budget”, “Public Hearings”, “Budgeting memory of An Education Employee”, “Citizen’s Guide over Budget: 2005 and 2006 fiscal year”, “Budgetary memory of a Health employee”, “World Trade Organization and Azerbaijan”, “Organizing and Financing of Primary Health Services (in 3 volumes)”, “Targeted Social Assistance: fairness, targeting, equality principles”.
